Bhubaneswar: The CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) marked its 62nd Foundation Day with a series of events and an insightful lecture focused on the role of science and technology in national progress, held on Wednesday.
Established on April 13, 1964, as the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), this institute has significantly contributed to enhancing India's expertise in minerals and materials research. It was rebranded as CSIR-IMMT in 2007 to align with its national objectives. This year, the celebrations took place on Wednesday due to April 13 being a public holiday.
During the inauguration, CSIR-IMMT director Ramanuj Narayan reflected on the institute's journey over the past sixty years and its increasing role in providing sustainable technological solutions. He emphasized, "We continue to innovate, evolve, and strengthen our impact in the minerals and materials sector."
The Foundation Day lecture was delivered by Sekhar C Mande, the former director general of CSIR and secretary of DSIR, who presented on the topic ‘S&T Road Map for Making of Viksit Bharat’. Mande highlighted the necessity of merging traditional knowledge with contemporary science and promoting innovation to transform India into a developed nation.
